1 Fowey: Mixtow Pill

Fowey is named after the river Fowey (pronounced to rhyme with buoy). As you approach Fowey, Mixtow Pill is on the east side of the river.

2 Fowey / Bodinnick ferry

Just north of Fowey is the Fowey to Bodinnick ferry. This is the most southern point for crossing the river by car. Further south there is also a passenger ferry between Fowey and Polruan.
Fowey is a picturesque town that hosts the annual Daphne du Maurier Festival of Arts and Literature. Daphne du Maurier lived in a beautiful house besides the Boddinnick ferry. The festival lasts for ten days, with a superb mix of music, plays, poetry and a host of other activities.
Fowey Parish Church is dedicated to St. Finn Barr, who was the first Bishop of Cork (A.D. 613 - 630). The font is the only surviving part of the original Norman Church which was built about A.D. 1150.

Possibly destroyed by pirates the Church had to be rebuilt in 1328. The town was attached by the French in 1456, and the Church was partially destroyed. The work of restoration began about 1460, which was when the tower was built.

It boasts a 500 year old wagon roof over the nave and chancel, and a pulpit made in 1601.
Polruan is a small ancient fishing village across the river Fowey from the town of Fowey. It is a remote village with only one road in or out, although passengers can cross from Fowey on the ferry.
